Decibel App Reviews

Do not buy this app. It’s not capable to play any DSD (dsf) file in the top of that there is no way to get in touch with the assistance. I’m desapointed and want my money back right now

Great app

Please add the equalizer. Integration with something like Izotope Ozone MP would be great too (though they dont have Mac version as of now).

ISteven

What a greate app. I am no audiophile but I do have some pretty good equipment and this program makes a noticable difference when playing music Pioneers Elite SC25 B&W 804

Unbelievably better than iTunes if you use USB output

Sound quality is amazing, it has "digital volume", and "analog volume" control becomes unavailable if you use USB output; I am using Grace m903 amplifier with Sennheiser HD 800. It supports FLAC. Sound quality of native AAC of iTunes is unbelievably better on Decibel; technically, iTunes uses floating point calculations to amplify a sound, and cant separate digital USB output from analogous. Guys, you can make your app better and pricier!

Decibel

Wont play!! PLay button does nothing??!! REFUND or pull this. TIRED OF BEING A BETA TESTER

Great app - but doesn’t work well most of the time

App itself would be awesome if it worked At least half of my FLAC files won’t import into app even though they work fine in Vox and VLC (and is inconsistent - sometimes they load, sometimes they don’t) Please fix this issue as I would love to play all my FLAC files with Decibel

音質とかよいのですが

Audirvanaと無料のVOXとで迷った結果、一番手頃なお値段だったこちらをダウンロードしました。 音質はAudirvanaよりは落ちますが、普通の視聴には十分すぎるので、全く問題ありません。 ただし、正式版ダウンロード後、頻繁に「The operation couldn’t be completed.

Decibel

plays good, but needs minutes to start playing, really annoying (OsX10.8, NAS source)

Good app but have a problem

The quality of sound is very good. But I have the problem with play Decibel after it was closed: 1. Open Decibel OK 2. Select file OK 3. Play file OK 4. Stop play OK 5. Close Decibel OK 6. Open Decibel OK 7. Play file (which was remembered) Not OK !!! Decibel show the message "This operation couldnt be completed. Operation is not permited.» OS El Capitan

good but no luck as network player

The player works as expected playing local files, with the maximum possible quality level, but I have a terrible experience when playing audio files stored on my Time Capsule in my home network. No way to avoid audio drops when loseless files are 96 kHz or beyond. Wireless or cabled is the same. For the record, the same files (ALAC, WAV) are played fine using iTunes.

NIce Audio Player

I like this application and while I havent done a side-by-side comparison to see if the sound is better with it, the sound is definitely good. My only complaint is that its a little slow in coming up with the list of music each time, and I dont have a particularly large music library compared to some people.

Decibel vs Pure Music

So much better than iTunes. Plays virtually noise-free. Plays 24-bit 96k so perfectly, very wide soundstage. Rivals Pure Music. Must have player for Hi-Fi listening!

Worth every penny

Im no audiophile, but decible is such a huge improvement over itunes for playing my music. Every song sounds clearer and every detail sharper. Thanks for such a great app.

Superb Music Player

Great improvement over i-Tunes - music is much clearer and more involving. What a bargain! If I had paid 10x as much I still would have thought it was a good deal.

A Great Player

This is a great app. I like the clean, simple interface and the fact that it plays all of my hi-res FLAC files with ease. IMO, the sound quality is on par with Pure Music, but $100 cheaper.

Worth the price

Its amazing! Sound quality… You will love it! Id like some more functionality, though, for example, support of .wv tags and .dts passthrough.

Simply amazing

This is the first review I am writing for an app. I thought itunes was good enough to pipe through an audiophile system. 5 minutes of critical listening through my AKG 702s blow itunes apart. Worst $32 I have spent as now I will have to invest in a $$$ dedicated mac mini setup to run this $32 program to my real speakers (ML). Thank you for a simple, elegant solution to digital music.

Save $$$ Get VLC instead

this is basically VLC player with some minor iTunes integration. i dont even really like VLC, but i thought this would have a better system of organization...except it doesnt even save a media library! thats the reason i bought this overpriced program you have to load the songs each time you start the program as a playlist. i dont want to have to create an entire playlist of my life

Try the free trial version first

Id heard good things about Decibel and was excited to find it at the App Store However, Ive run into snags and, while searching for support on the web, learned that there is a 48 hour trial version available at the developer site. I wish Id known this, as I might well have decided not to spend my $32 on this application. First, when Ive had it working, there is no denying that it presents wonderful sound. I cant say Ive compared it directly to iTunes output because my iTunes library consists only of compressed music and I bought this app to play FLAC files on my Mac, but my computer-based audio system never has sounded better than when playing through Decibel. However, there are some big "howevers." (1) This is not really an iTunes substitute in that it retains no library information even when you check the "remember playlist between launches" preference. You cant just start this up and go. You need to load a playlist from files stored on your drive, and that is where the fun begins. (2) To load the files for a playlist and, later, the saved playlist itself, you may well need to allot a VERY long time each and every time you fire up this app. My FLAC files are stored on a NAS to which my computer is connected by ethernet, and amount to about 450GB or so in storage space; they take at least ten minutes to load, whether by clicking on the directory in which they are stored or by clicking on the saved playlist. This really is very frustrating if you just want to fire up the sound system and let er rip. (3) There are very few playback preferences and I have not figured out how to take the application out of integer mode. My MacBook Pro is early 2008 and, Ive gathered from doing research on the web, the USB ports on the pre-late 2008 Macs dont generate enough power to allow a USB DAC to use integer mode without causing an audible "clicking" sound during quiet passages. Other applications, like Audirvana Plus, allow you to turn off integer mode, which does alter the sound, but the differences are subtle and "no clicks" is better than "clicks." (A workaround is to add a powered USB hub between your older Mac and your DAC, which is what I ended up doing.) (4) This app crashes routinely, especially if you try to do other things on your computer while it is up and running. (You wont want to shut it down unless you must, as it takes so long to reload your library, but these crashes make the decision for you.) (5) Support appears spotty for a premium-priced app. The developer does not publish an email address and instead relies on forums for communication. However, it appears from the forum that the developer himself does not respond to all inquiries. If another user cant help out, theres no guarantee that youll get assistance. If you have a smallish collection, or you are content to load the tracks a few at a time as you play them, you probably will love the sound quality and the ability to play FLAC files. (For those who advocate the use of Apple lossless instead of FLAC, I know the arguments for conversion, but I run a mixed PC-Mac-Linux network at home and only FLAC will play universally across all combinations of devices.) However, you should try the freebie trial first to make sure that you will get your moneys worth if you buy. I certainly wish I had. (An alternative worth investigating is Audirvana Plus, which has no trouble retrieving the same playlist instantaneously when it relaunches, gives control over integer mode and many other settings, seems more stable, and is not an incrediblely more expensive product.)

Excellent sound quality but needing some UI updates

It is a nice player with excellent sound quality. One star is removed, wishing to have the volume control on the main window as iTunes and directly access iTunes music files without copying or selecting them to the player. Easy access to the volume control will be paticularly useful for an amp without a physical volume knob.
